In Rainbows (2007) is the most accessible album they made this century, and also closest thing to a standard Rock album they have done since OK Computer, although there are still some Electronic influences. It is also their longest, and some people including me think it is a bit overlong. Hail to the Thief (2003) was regarded as a sort of return to rock after Kid A and Amnesiac, although there are still some more Electronic songs. It is also the album of them that has the most Jazz influences. I'd say it is a bit more accessible than Kid A, and a bit more eclectic. It is my favorite album of them.Īmnesiac (2001) was recorded at the same time of Kid A, and likewise it is a very experimental record. It was very divisive when it was released, but now most people regard it as one of their best. To me the album is about the feeling of not being able to connect to the world. Although I'd argue it is a Rock album at its heart, it is influenced by more avant-garde genres like the Electronic music on the Warp label, Krautrock, and there is even a bit of influence of 20th century Classical Music. Kid A (2000) is their most experimental album. It is an Alternative Rock album, but at times more experimental than most other Alternative Rock albums from the era, and also at times a bit darker.

It also has the most songs that you might already know beforehand, like Paranoid Android and Karma Police. OK Computer (1997) is the album of them that scores the highest in those 'greatest albums of all time' lists. This album and Pablo Honey mostly lack the experimentalism of later albums. It is also one of their more personal and melancholic albums. The Bends (1995) is likewise a standard 90's Alternative Rock album, but it is much better than Pablo Honey. Although it has by far their most well-known song, Creep, it is widely regarded as their weakest album. Pablo Honey (1993), their debut, is basically a standard early 90's Alternative Rock album. I will give a short description of each of their albums below.

Generally you can say that most of their hits come from the 90's, but many people fans including me think that some of their best work came after that. Maybe in time their latest album, A Moon Shaped Pool, will join these, but it is still too early to tell. Radiohead have made three albums that I think can be considered classic albums: in chronological order OK Computer, Kid A and In Rainbows. In terms of the ideal order, let me copy-paste my usual answer when someone asks for advise what albums to listen to: The reason people argue that you should go chronologically is that then you can experience how much they have grown, and what a shock Kid A was, but presumably you already know the reputation of their records, and you know how much they have grown, and you know that Kid A is quite a different record.

I think it is way better to know their important records well, and skip their less important records, than to know all their records a little bit. And not all Radiohead albums are equally essential: OK Computer, Kid A and In Rainbows are their classic albums, and certainly Pablo Honey is quite far from their later brilliance, so it is ok to skip that. One reason is that I think it is important to listen to a Radiohead albums multiple times before moving on, and the Radiohead albums are about 7 hours of music in total, so listening to all their albums chronologically would take 21 hours if you'd listen to every album 3 times (and for quite a few Radiohead albums I'd argue that 3 times is even too few). Unlike the other people here, I would advise you not to listen to their discography chronologically. Radiohead Not For Profit (live performances)īuy/Sell/Trade Ticket Thread (Tomorrow's Modern Boxes)
